Introduction to Vedic Chanting Winter Workshop Series
Curious about chanting as a personal practice?
Join me beginning in January for a series of online workshops introducing the basics of chanting in Sanskrit and working with Vedic mantras.
The Vedas are ancient Sanskrit texts from which Indic knowledge systems including Yoga, Ayurveda, and Jyotish stem from.
The Vedas are considered śruti, that which is heard, indicating their status as revealed texts that ancient seers brought back from states of deep meditation.
These ancient seers or rsi-s, had direct experience of the nature of reality which they expressed through beautiful esoteric poetry that was passed on through oral tradition in the form of the mantras that were later organized and written down as the four Vedas.
There are many ways to study the wisdom contained in these texts, the most common through translation and commentary. BUT…
Sanskrit is a vibrational language. The mantras themselves contain the wisdom. It’s encoded in the sound.
Veda recitation aligns your vibration with this wisdom and over time it begins to unfold inside of you even if you don’t know the exact meaning of every word.
Chanting Veda can:
expand lung capacity and help to repattern the breath in a healthy way
activate the parasympathetic nervous system, bringing you into a more relaxed state
develop concentration and focus
create new neural pathways
lower anxiety and stress
In addition, chanting ancient texts is a profound tool for personal growth and connection to your idea of the divine, whatever that may be.
Each workshop will include:
~ a live ONLINE class
~ basics of Sanskrit pronunciation
~ 6 rules of Vedic chanting
~ digital course manual
~ links to practice recordings of all mantras
~ feedback on homework recordings for accuracy
~conversations about Vedic deities and how we can work with them authentically and respectfully as Westerners
Each workshop will highlight a Vedic mantra that you can use in any daily practice.
Workshops may taken individually or all together for a comprehensive introduction.
Much gratitude to my teacher Shantala Sriramaiah and the Veda Studies program for creating an accessible path to share this beautiful practice.
