GANESHA
Clearing Obstacles for the New Year
A 40-Day Meditation Practice with Sanskrit Mantra
January 7 - February 15, 2024
Mantra is vibrational cleansing. When we chant, we purify negative energy.
Mantra is sound healing. When we chant, we clear stagnant energy and open up space for vital life force to fill.
Mantra is actively engaging. If you haven’t tried it, mantra may be a great practice for you. It actively engages your your creative force (throat chakra) and anchors a busy mind. It develops concentration, and leads to an easier time sitting with yourself.
Mantra lifts vibration. It lifts your personal vibration and radiates out, lifting the vibration of your immediate environment and beyond.
Mantra is an excellent vehicle to connect you to your deepest inner wisdom and intuition.
Deepen your relationship with the energy of new beginnings and create a clear and steady path to move forward into the new year.
The elephant-headed deity known as Gaṇeśa is one of the most popular deities in Vedic traditions. He is everybody’s friend. Embodying many qualities that elephants themselves have, he is a loyal and protective ally to everyone walking the spiritual path. Seated in the root chakra, the vibration of this universal intelligence is stabilizing and supportive.
Honored as the energy that removes all obstacles, Ganesha is called in to bring auspiciousness at the beginning of all things because he is considered the beginning of all things. In the Vedas, he is likened to the Pranava Mantra ~ Om.
Gaṇeśa assists us in moving through our various karmas with as much grace as possible and always serves to remind us to enjoy the sweetness of life along the way.
This practice is for anyone wishing to step in this new year solidly with both feet and set intentions for moving through it with peace and well-being.
THEMES WE’LL EXPLORE THROUGH Gaṇeśa:
-removing obstacles between where you are and where you’d like to be
-releasing debt of all kinds (financial, relational, karmic)
-dedication + trust
-protection + recognizing your allies
-Gaṇeśa as Om
-empathy and fine tuning our ability to listen to ourselves and others
-problem solving
-enjoying sweetness and joy in each moment
THE PRACTICE:
My intention with these containers is to make it as easy as possible to feel to engaged with your practice. We will be learning simple Gaṇeśa mantras to use for daily japa practice (repetition of mantra). I will also be sharing a beautiful Vedic Gaṇeśa shanti (peace) mantra from the Gaṇapati Upaniṣat.
The goal will be to set up a steady practice, taking time each day to chant, to connect with the attributes this well-loved deity embodies and invite an awareness of how these attributes are alive inside you. We meet twice a week to reflect, learn and practice together in a supportive online group.
There will also be ideas for supplementary practices to go along with the chanting if you wish to spend more time on any given day.
