The Benefits of Chanting Sanskrit Mantra

Chanting Sanskrit mantra is a powerful practice.

I began chanting mantra as a core personal practice 8 years ago and right from the start, I could feel a difference. It has been a steady support system through leaving a 30 year relationship, a major health scare, a surgery, financial difficulties, living on my own for the first time in my life after my daughters went to college, and many other obstacles over the years. On a day-to-day level, I have less anxiety and a much easier time dealing with challenging people and situations.

Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to hold regular 40-day meditation groups utilizing Sanskrit chanting as an anchor. I have witnessed over and over again the profound effects that focused application of this practice has on participants.

As a meditation tool, it is gives the mind something to focus on that is not just "quieting the mind". This makes it much easier to attain a meditative state. Japa (repetition of a mantra), is a technology of retraining neural pathways to be more present.

As a healing modality, the vibration of Sanskrit mantras relax the nervous system, bringing it into the parasympathetic state. Research has shown innumerable health benefits from chanting including; lowering blood pressure, improving the immune system, as well as triggering the release of endorphins, serotonin, dopamine and melatonin, which are the chemicals that help you feel happier.

As a devotional practice, mantras serve as a key to opening a connection with a deep part of ourselves, where we can access both our own intuition and the wisdom and support of universal intelligence. Using a mantra regularly in your personal practice can make enormous transformations in both your inner and outer worlds.

A REGULAR CHANTING PRACTICE CAN:

-Improve breathing and lung capacity

-Improve heart health

-Stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system

-Calm and anchor the mind

-Retrain thought patterns

-Improve concentration

-Improve memory

-Clear emotional blocks
