Beauty in Solitude and Sitting with the Council of Trees

I am reading a beautiful book by John O'Donahue right now called Anam Cara. Among many other things it speaks about divine friendship. Friendship experienced with other people, within yourself, and even with the subtle energy of the Universal Field. Here is a passage that struck me this morning.

"No one but you can sense the eternity and depth concealed in your solitude. No one else has access to the world you carry around within yourself; you are its custodian and entrance. No one else can view the world the way you see it. No one else can feel your life the way you feel it."

I really love this. I see many people struggle with feeling understood by others. This passage is validating because it's a reminder that, not only has no one else had our unique experience, we have not lived through the eyes, or in the body of someone else.

Because we each see and feel through a crystal prism that is all our own, there are going to be places that only the depths of our own understanding will be able to reach. Embracing this gives a little breathing room around our relationships with others.

Those of you who know me, know that I spend an ample time walking in the forest and here's why. The forest understands. When you breathe with the trees, you can feel your own roots diving deep into the shared story of the earth. The ocean understands. Water will share secrets of the ebb and flow of your ephemeral nature and the silent stillness beneath the surface. The wind can carry messages to the other side of the veil and also uncover the lost treasure of your vital life force. And the sun is ever present in witnessing each step you take.

We can develop a friendship with the fabric of the Universe through these external elemental forces that will lead us to a deeper appreciation of our relationship to Self. We can feel into that universal intelligence that we are always connected to, and through it feel truly connected to everyone else. In this light, logical understanding isn't relevant or necessary.

Taking even a few minutes aligning with this love-light can make all the difference to the perspective of your day.

Breathing in love-light with you,

Sri
